The Thrums story
I’ve loved working with paper for as long as I can remember. That early fascination led me to a career as a conservator of works of art on paper, a role that’s given me the privilege of caring for artworks created by many hands, across many centuries. Along the way, I’ve developed a deep respect for the incredible skill of those artists and for the fine materials and techniques behind their work.
I’ve also trained in bookbinding and book conservation, and remain endlessly intrigued by the evolution of the book… from early Asian traditions to Western illuminated manuscripts.
Outside the studio, I’m a keen hiker with a strong connection to nature, and that love of the natural world threads through everything I make. I’m particularly drawn to the historic crafts linked to paper, making paper by hand from plant fibres, creating cyanotypes (an early photographic process) using foliage and making dyes from plants.
Through Thrums Craft Cottage, I bring together these loves and experiences to create handmade paper products and run workshops, with all proceeds donated to charities I care deeply about. Each piece is made with care, using materials chosen for their beauty, quality and longevity.
I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country and their connection to land, waterways, sky and community and pay my respect to Elders past, present and future
